Our history
Levaco was founded in 1967 and has grown into an experienced and reliable freight forwarding company with a strong focus on sea freight for imports and exports. Operating from the port of Antwerp, we offer a wide range of logistics services, complemented by Value Added Services (VAS) such as storage and further handling of goods.
In addition to its freight forwarding services, Levaco also operates bonded warehouse and customs facilities in Antwerp in close cooperation with the Ministry of Finance in Brussels. As a fully AEO-certified company, we guarantee the safe, efficient and compliant handling of international shipments.
Our history is rooted in family tradition and continuity. Co-founder Van der Haeghe remained actively involved until 2000, after which the second generation, led by Luc Huysmans, further expanded the company. Today, Levaco is led by the third generation, with Alycia and Christopher Huysmans at the helm, who are continuing to develop the company with a focus on innovation and forward-looking logistics solutions.

2000 – At the start of the new millennium, the second generation takes the helm at Levaco
Luc’s career as a freight forwarder began when he joined Navex & Van Meerbeeck in 1993, initially as a manager and later as a director.
This company was the result of a merger between Van Meerbeeck & Co., founded in 1946, and Navex N.V., founded in 1919.
Levaco began to focus on developing new products and services through local partnerships in destinations requiring specialist expertise. Building on this focus, a container service to Albania was launched in 1994 to supply the Coca-Cola factory with sugar from the United Kingdom.
This service was later extended to Kosovo and Macedonia. During the same period, as the economy there began to recover, a comprehensive service by land and sea was launched to Iran.
Acquisition and innovation since 2022
In 2022, Alycia and Christopher Huysmans took over the reins at Levaco, ushering in a new chapter for the family business as the third generation. While respecting the traditions built up over the years, they are strongly committed to modernisation, digitalisation and growth, with the aim of further positioning Levaco as a forward-thinking player in international logistics.
A key step was the implementation of a new software system with live track & trace, enabling customers to track their shipments in real time with greater transparency and control.
In addition, Levaco continuously develops innovative solutions to optimise processes and respond more efficiently to the changing market, combining traditional expertise with modern technology to deliver higher service quality and flexibility.
Over the years, Levaco has built up a strong international logistics network comprising more than 750 exclusive overseas partners. These specialist partners offer expertise in sea and air freight, general cargo, oversized loads and heavy haulage, enabling Levaco to combine the clout of a globally operating logistics company with the flexibility and personal approach of a family business.
The high standard of service that has characterised Levaco for decades is now enhanced by advanced software solutions. Our systems support efficient communication, stock management, reporting and bespoke documentation, enabling us to serve our customers even better with transparent and innovative logistics services.
