For many years now, cargo has generally been shipped in containers. Containers have made sea transport easier, as cargo is loaded directly at the shipper’s premises and unloaded at the final destination without the need for any extra work. At Levaco, we handle large volumes of containers for both import and export.

Consolidation is a distinct area within container transport. Not all shipments are large enough to fill an entire container. If you wish to ship a (trial) consignment that is not large enough to fill an entire container, groupage, or consolidation, is the solution.

Ro-ro ships were designed to offer maximum flexibility. Containers are carried as deck cargo, whilst cars, semi-trailers and other vehicles are transported on the various intermediate decks. The ships have a tailgate at the rear through which vehicles can be loaded or unloaded.

Before the rise of containerisation, not so long ago, most cargo was handled manually as general cargo. Loading and unloading cargo by hand was labour-intensive. Although the proportion of general cargo in shipping has continued to fall over recent decades, it remains an important part of the industry!
